shiftworks kit or aftermarket shifter in 64-66 auto console

Has any one used the shiftworks kit to convert the stock 64-6 floor shifter to a 3 or 4 speed?

I have a shifter and console for my 64 and was debating on whether to get the shiftworks kit, or sell the stock shifter and put an aftermarket shifter in the console.

Has anyone got an aftermarket shifter to work well in a 64-66 console without hacking it up?

I don't know about the older models but I put one in a 1971 Chevelle and it works perfect with the rest of the origional shifter and console, just basicly a plate that changed the detents and not the length of movement or handle.

I have a shift works conversion in my 65 cutlass for my 2004r trans...works great...Minor mods required...Or use the original linkage...it still works with a 3 speed or four speed. You just have to modify the detent

How much modification if required to the detents?

Its been a while but it has to be notched for the 1st and 2nd gear I believe...but you dont really need to do it unless you will manually use low gear or 2nd gear...
