setting up a kick down cable.

this would be a simple thing if I had a stock kick down cable. What I have is an after market replacement that I have to set up. It looks like I may have to trim to length I honestly do not know. It has a slide looking thing which I assume is so you don't over pull the cable at wot since the travel on the kick down is limited. Anyone here have any experience with these after market cables ? Do I need a different bracket for this that goes on the carb ?

Its a replacement unit and yes probably chevy. But its a trim to fit one. This is for my dads pontiac nby that time all the kick downs where the same style. I'm trying to figure out how to cut it to the proper length and have the correct amount of slack.
