Can anyone here recommend a transmission shop that has knowledge of this transmission? Mine has been in the shop three times for the same issue, no forward gears. It's a 1963 F85 Cutlass convertible that shifted well prior to removal for nothing more than a clean, inspection and seal job, now, no forward gears. It does shift perfectly with the back wheels off the ground. And reverse works well. Any help would be appreciated.

Where are you located? One big problem with these is the original aluminum governor. There is an update to replace them with cast iron ones. If the ring lands on the governor are worn it will cause all sorts of problems. My transmission guy is in Spencer Indiana and rebuilt mine and is doing fantastic. If you are near There call Vedders Transmission. Tell him Eric Jensen sent you. Well, He will guess I sent you when you say 63 Cutlass...

 

One good thing about these is that if you have to ship it, it is aluminum and not very heavy. It would not be like shipping an old hydramatic. I think this is the same transmission Buick used in the 61-63 Specials. It was called the Dualpath. Our mechanics didn't even work on them. They would just pull them and put in a rebuilt one from Buick.

 

The dual path was different and only a 2 speed. It was much smaller overall also.
