Was there transmission fluid in the torque converter before you bolted it to the engine? Are you sure it was rebuilt? Positive about the shifter cable working properly? Just a few things to check.

If you do, remove the torque converter to flex plate bolts first.

put the rear end up on jack stands and put the tranny in drive, this will help pump fluid into the torque converter, you might have to give the tires a spin by hand to get things started. This is a trick and old tranny guy taught me have used it several times on friends cars when then did not prime the convertor first.

Did you make sure the tq conv fully engaged. You have to turn it clockwise and push on it. You will feel it click three times. If you didn't your going to have pull the transmission anyway.

i had the motor out when i installed the tranny the shop told me to make sure the converter was back all the way so as not to damage the pump when bolting the two together i didnt push or pull on the converter just married it to the motor and bolted it to the flex plate all the info i had was from the shop that rebuilt it the owner is gonna come out on thursday and check a few things sounds like they will stand behind it so thats some good news just more work to do before i get her on the road
