He may be talking about the tab on the throttle arm that the cable connects to. The kickdown cable connects to the bottom, so when your throttle pulls back, the kickdown cable goes forward. Your carb linkage may not have this. What type of carb is it?

From what Jim said it sounds like all you need is a way to attach the kickdown cable to your carburetor. If you can't find the "stock" set up for this a trip to the hardware store should get you moving in the right direction. I ran an Edelbrock carb on my car for awhile and had to fabricate my own TV rod with parts I got at the hardware store. You can also get a kit at your local auto parts store to do carburetor linkage modifications. It will come with an assortment of stanchions and swedged ends so you can hook up your kickdown cable.

I have the same problem on my 72 cutlass, still not resolved. I have an edelbrock carb and I can't connect the kickdown, so when you figure this out, let me know so I can drive around finally. Thanks.

Is it a turbo 400? If so I have the same on my 70, but it is an electric solenoid kick down.

Kevin, the Slim Jim transmission uses a mechanical throttle valve linkage. Same theory of operation as a cable operated kickdown.

All you need to do is drill a hole in the throttle on the carburetor. Then install a stanchion in the hole that will allow you to snap the end of the kickdown cable onto the throttle of the carburetor (this will also allow it to pivot). Then you put a turnbuckle in the end of the cable to allow you to adjust the tension.

Maybe I am thinking of the wrong thing, but it is difficult to convey these ideas over the internet. Sorry.

Seen those things years ago, large solid bent piece of steel that hooked to the carb linkage, and ran the lenght down to the tranny. Amazing how things from that far back you can remember , when thinking about them. Another good reason for me on this forum...............Thanks Olds64

72 is supposed to come into the interior of the car and connect directly to the throttle pedal assembly below the carb cable IIRC.

Yeah, I figured it was supposed to do that when I saw the second hole above the accel pedal...but the kickdown cable has been cut and is already at the carb, and I just can't get it to connect, I think I'm missing a part. I'd really rather not run a new line to the pedal. thanks,
sam
