M20 whine

I have a M20 in a 71 Supreme. First gear whines and increases with rpm. I have read 2 different views one being this is normal and the other that the input bearings are bad. Any thoughts? Thanks.

Not to be stupid but have you checked gear lube in the trans?...A Muncie may have a bit of a wine especially during acceleration but should be relatively quite for the most part.

I have an M20 in my 68 and it's very quiet. I think this is the correct operating noise level. Good luck.
