I just did an engine swap. Clutch was good, installed a new throw out bearing, it moves freely on the input shaft.
Clutch pedal is adjusted with no play at the pedal and trans grinds trying to engage reverse.
Did I adjust it in the wrong direction? The adjustment rod is turned out to fill the space between the clutch fork and the Z bar. Spring is installed.
Also what would be causing the squealing noise when I step on the clutch? Oil or grease contamination?
I'm going to drop the trans and inspect tomorrow, just looking for advice on what to look for.
The squealing is basically unpossible to diagnose over the internet.
As for grinding in reverse, that's pretty normal, as it is not synchronized. Try putting it in 1st prior to reverse; that should fix that.
I'm not trying to change how much free play the pedal should have. I think I just over did it on the adjustment. I'll redo that first, loosen it up and see what happens.
First, reverse should not grind. Second, it sounds like your clutch is not completely disengaging. Make sure your clutch disc is not bent by making sure you have sufficient air gap. Lastly, your release bearing sounds defective. Hope this helps
Hopefully you got the throw out bearing clipped in correctly. It’s easy to do wrong. Usually you will have a very hard clutch if it’s clipped wrong..ask me how I know..lol
follow up....
found the problem....
broken retaining clip on the clutch fork
replaced the clutch fork and new throw out bearing and all good.
the tip on the left side of the retainer is broken off, causing the throw out bearing not seat right.
