Jetaway (ST-300) Reliability?

I have searched but have not found any info relating to the Jetaway 2-speed reliability, especially the switch-pitch models (64-67). Also can anyone explain the internal difference that makes the M-34 a heavy duty version - and can you easily modify a regular to the M-34 HD. Would be interested in hearing some typical longevity history for the Jetaway. I'm kind of a maintenance nut and really don't beleive in waiting until somthing breaks before fixing it - therefore my tendency to over-maintain (by most standards) and overbuild. Any input is really appreciated!

Thanks Coldwar! Got a friend who abused his 64 F-85 Jetaway by racing it at a local dragstrip. Had a perfectly stock 330 2-barrel (like mine) but ran 4.56 gears and smoked his tires before every run. The car ran an incredible high 8's in the 1/8th mile. However, as you mentioned, the trans did eventually burn out after repeated burnouts. Took about a year. I won't be doing that!
