Help...replacement transmission slip yoke, M21

I have the original slip yoke on my 1969 442 M21 std. trans.
The yoke shaft is scored and I am thinking about replacing the yoke...27 spline. My transmission was recently re-built so it has a new end seal and bushing.

Problem: The measurement from the end of the yoke shaft to the center of the U joint is 5.0". However, the replacement yoke shafts are 5.5" for the M21.

I was told that no body manufactures an OEM style 5.0" and that my driveshaft would have to be shortened to accomodate the 5.5" replacement shaft??? I was also told that my driveshaft should be re-balanced anyway.

Not sure all of this makes sense...hard to believe all these 442's with M21's have to have their drive shafts modified.

Any body run across this before?

Show me how you are measuring it in a picture. I have many drive shafts might have what you need.

replacement yokes are .5" longer?

Larry
I am not looking to replace my driveshaft, just the transmission yoke...27 spline. I rebuilt my trans and have a fresh seal and bushing in the extension housing where the yoke inserts. My yoke is well scored so I thought I should replace it to ensure a good seal.

My original yoke measures:

Barrell length 3.5"
Length to center of U joint 5.0"

The replacements measure 3.625" and 5.5"

In total, the replacement yoke is approx. .5" longer...I am concerned that could be a problem and am looking for input before I order the replacement.

Email me at lemoldsnut@aol.com a picture of you measuring it so I make sure I do it the same. I did assume you meant you wanted a yoke. I have several driveshafts with yokes on them. I would remove one to sell it to you.

direct email is lemoldsnut@aol.com

I am sure I have it.

The length of the slip yoke doesn't matter. Hence the title word "slip". It should push all the way into the trans till it clears the yoke on the rearend then pull backs to fit into the rear yoke. I've seen 7" yokes to make up for a short driveline.

My442...yes that is identical to mine... 5.0" long from center of U joint to end of barrel.

Still don't get why these are not reproduced at 5.0". The aftermarket part is 5.5" long... 0.50" longer.

Thanks,
Andy

If it slips into the trans all the way it's not bottoming out on the tail shaft splines and you can pull it back to fit into the rear end yoke you'll be fine
