Help finding the ID numbers 71 Olds SX

Help please. The car is a 1971 Oldsmobile SX convertible. I am trying to determine if the transmission matches the VIN or trim tag number. The tag on the transmission identifies number BT-67-97264 and above the number on the same tag it reads 355. However, when I went to the driver side I identified number 87. I then went to the passenger side, and found the steel bar where the numbers normally are located, and found no identifying numbers. Please advise if I'm looking in the right spot for a 1971, and if I'm not, where do I look. As usual my appreciation. Thanks, Twilightblue28A

The transmission VIN derivative will be on the driver's side on the side of the lip that the pan seals against.

It will be covered with crud, so you will have to wipe and scrape to see it.

Ha ha. Duh. I didn't even read the number he posted, because I was thinking about the VIN.

Yeah. "B" is for "Buick."

So the answer is, No, the transmission does not match.

Sorry I missed that, Don.

BT code trans was used in the Riv. If it is a short tail shaft T400 it likely came from a Riv.

Law school? Sue em if advertised as numbers matching.
Select go advanced below reply, use paperclip to attach.

So MD and Don,
Thank you again for your help. You guys are the greatest. This 71 SX convertible underwent a complete restoration, with mounds of documents to support the restoration, and it turns out the transmission is from a Buick Riviera!!!!! I think I've seen about everything. Thanks again. They didn't teach me this in Law School. How do I upload the pictures taken? Thanks again, Twilightblue28A
