Gear box options
Hello,
Asking for someone with a bit of knowledge on the THM400 gearbox to answer a question,
I have a 1967 olds 98, and the gearbox has given up, I've tried all the simple things, and still nothing!
Being in the UK there's not much to offer when it comes to gearbox's apart from units out of old rolls Royce'
Does anyone know if this would be a straight swap? Or am I barking up the wrong tree?
Cheers James

First, while RR and Jaguar both used the TH400 at various times (as did Ferrari), none of those applications have the same bellhousing bolt pattern as your Olds, so the will not swap. Also, your 67 trans is a long tail TH400, which is less common, even here in the US. I'm afraid you need a long tail TH400 for a BOP application. Sorry.

James, why not rebuild the transmission you have? It is not that difficult, really! That way you only pay for the rebuild kit and any hard parts you may need. I'm sure all that stuff is available and could be shipped to the UK a lot cheaper than a complete transmission. Get some books and study up on it and see what you think....

my suggestion as well. The jaguar and rolls Royce transmissions could donate some parts if needed.
Keep in mind that the original trans in a 1967 Delta is a long tail TH400 with switch pitch. That means that the converter, front pump, input shaft, output shaft, and tailhousing are all unique to that application.
