dual gate shifter fake?
dual gate shifter fake?
just a quick question I cant seem to find any info on. 72 442 dual gate shifter. My question is, my shifter has a wood ball on it and the shaft itself has no threads on it. the ball simply pushes on. Is this a fraud? or factory equipment? My vin indicates to originally having dual gate just confused, what i have read says they all came with black ***** and i believe threaded stubs. thanks

dual gate
Yes your shifter ball should be black and threaded and your shifter lever also should be threaded. hard to say why its like that, maybe someone cross threaded it at one time and it steamrolled from there?
I don't see how a 1972 VIN can tell you if you have a dual gate (W26) or not. But yes they would have a threaded shifter and a black ****. The wood one would be for a standard floor shift automatic. The shifter should say Hurst on both sides, not sure if the repros do or not.
Do you ever feel like a complete idiot? haha I sure do right this moment. The shifter is threaded. The plastic chrome piece that goes into the shift **** was on the shaft while the wooden part had seperated. Disregard this thread. As far as the vin telling me that was a mistake. I thought i remembered something about the vin id book telling me that but I am mistaken. Thanks!
