Best stoplight trans

Hello i am building a 70 cutlass with a olds 350 that will hopefully have 350-400 hp, and was wonder what opinions you guys had on a bolt in trans(would not be opposed to shift kit) car wont be running freeways, some highway 60mph or so not long distances so rpm isnt that big of a deal just want it to be fast stoplight to stoplight have been thing about 2004r. any suggestions?

You don't need an OD trans that will cost several thousand dollars to build so it can handle that power level. A TH350 with a good stall converter and shift kit will work for your application.

Where are you located? I have a TH350 that is rebuilt with updated sprags. It was built to have very firm shifts but not neck braking and a slight stall, 2100 +- RPM. Has around 300 miles on it.

Jensenracing77's tranny and some 355 gears that should hustle from stop light to stop light real good if tuned in. I have 390 and they are alittle short legged for me on the open road .

I could likely sell mine for $600 shipped to your closest Fastenal store. It was rebuilt by Vedders Transmission in Spencer Indiana. He does all my work and the best transmission guy I ever met.

If I was on the cheap(and I am) I would(and did) build a 2004r. You get deeper first than th350, and overdrive. You do need a tv cable/bracketry and to move the crossmember back.

if you aren't into the diy approach a th350 is also an excellent choice. Just need some deeper rear gears and you are running right with the th2004r until you hit the highway.
