auto-5speed

Anyone here ever swap a automatic for a Tremec 5 speed?
I am looking at doing this to my rust free 1970 olds but I really dont want to chop the hell out of the trans tunnel it do it. Also the drive shaft out of the 455 that I have will need to be driiled for this if it checks out to be ok but if it dose not? I have looked on line but olny ones I can find cast , I cant find a forged crank shaft for a olds 455 new anywhere.

The TKOs dont fit. Keisler has a new RS line that's supposed to fit but they're way behind on shipping.
You might want to check out a Richmond 5 or 6 speed with OD. No tunnel mods needed and shifters are available for stock location placement. You can typically reuse your driveshaft too.

Hello guys,David here.I also agree with going with a richmond 5 or 6 speed I put one in my Z28 ( i know don't say it) and it was a direct bolt in with no mods whatsoever.I would imagine it will be the same with Olds.I have a question for the olds experts out there.I have been reading that the crank shafts in the rocket 350 are different in the auto and standard cars.Is it written in stone that cranks are not drilled for a pilot bearing in the auto cars.I have a 1969 350 2bbl with a 2 speed auto. Will I have to drill the crank for a pilot? I am used to chevy's( I know I know) and they are all drilled.

Hello me again,If I don't go for the 4 spd conversion, what would be easier, putting in a TH350 or a TH400? I know the 2 spd has an electric kick down as well as the TH400.Your thoughts would be appreciated.David.

Hi David ,,I would go with the TH400 with a short tail. I did this on my sons Chevelle. I know don't say it. I still had to have the drive shaft worked on and a little modifaction to the linkage. Was not bad at all. Thanks for the heads up on the TKO not fitting. I herd the Richmond's were kind of weak. My engine will be in the 500 FP of tork.I would go with a 4 speed but I want the highway gear with out dropping a ton on a overdrive unit.
