Another floor shifter problem

'69 Cutlass S, 350 auto... I know this has beevn discussed before, and I even looked thru the 'search' . I'm installing the console and floor shift that I got from the guy in florida. the overall lenghth of the cable appears to be about 4'' too long. The console (shifter) is mounted in the factory indents in the floor board, the correct modification to the shifter lever, to go from the column to the cable, but one problem is... the bracket that came with the cable to fasten to the trans.... The bolt pattern don't match the oil pan bolts , but does match the 2 mounts ABOVE the pan in the trans casting. did this guy give me the wrong parts , how do I make this work ?.............thanks
