Aluminum flyhweel

Anyone used one yet? I'm curious about how it reacts on a 455 as I was considering one for my build. I loved the way it moved on my 302 powered Fox body and even my 408CI truck. I figure the Olds 455 has enough bottom end to get it outta the hole in regular driving but just curious if anyone has tried it yet.

It all depends on vehicle weight, gearing, and engine torque. The torque is no issue, but in a heavy vehicle with low numeric gears, it probably isn't a benefit. In a lighter vehicle with high numeric gears, it reduces rotating inertia so the engine gets into the power band quicker.

I get the physics, I'm curious if anyone has run one before on a 455. I imagine if someone did run one, it wasn't on a 2.41 geared Vista. haha I've got a 3.73 under my '77 coupe, so I'm hoping it wouldn't bog...

...into the powerband? These engines dont need to rev to accelerate, when torque peaks at 3000 rpm....

on a tighter wound small block I would expect more benefit in a properly set up application, as an engine like that would benefit from being free-er to spin up. With a heavy vehicle, big torque and a heavy flywheel will provide more acceleration off the line, ALL THE TIME
