How do I add the speedo gear drive to a Delta trans?

I'm installing a TH400 from a 1969 Delta into a 1969 Cutlass S. I know I will have to have the drive shaft shortened, as this is a medium-tail trans. However I just realized this trans does not have a provision to connect the speedometer cable to the transmission. Where the speedo gear should be is a freeze plug. I read a thread where Joe Padavano said these transmissions can be easily converted to add the speedo gear.

Bottom line; can anyone here outline how to perform this modification?

I appreciate any help. Thanks!
