93-97 F-body T56 conversion in a 70 S 455/400
93-97 F-body T56 conversion in a 70 S 455/400
Came across a steal on a T56 from a LT1 car. I've searched and searched but can't find the thread I saw a while back about them. I seem to remember they can't be used with the LS engines or the 455s. Is this correct? If not, other than mounts, pedals, tunnel, hydraulics and the drive shaft, what would need to be done to make it fit?
Also, can they be rebuilt with a thicker or stroover input/output shaft? I was putting down just shy of 450hp/425ftlb in my 95 TA and turned my output shaft in to a dowel pin on the highway one night while eating snake for supper.
Thanks in advance!

I am sure people have put the LT 1 version T-56 behind an Olds V8. Pretty sure one guy on here had one behind a stout Olds 403. The trans held up but the 403 didn't, broke the crank in 3. The aftermarket Quick Time or McLeod bellhousing are a good idea and eliminates an adapter plate. You will need to check input length, some need shaved. I am pretty sure the T-56 can be upgraded to TR6060 internals which is basically a Hellcat grade version of the T-56.
No idea about the LT1 trans, but I have a T56 in my Rallye350 with a 455. It was a 03/04 Cobra trans upgraded to Viper internals. I used a G Force cross member. Used a Lakewood bell housing I think. There are only two out there for a T56 and a BOP pattern. I had to replace the trans tunnel due to its size. I added a hydraulic clutch and hydraulic throw out bearing. Had a custom driveshaft made, and a lot of money later it works!
