700r4 replacing original
HEYYO, whats the best way of figuring how much your drive shaft needs to be shortened when installing a longer transmission. If the trans is in and u lift the drive shaft u close you cans see its too long but i don know by how muc exactly.... should i measure from the end of the transmission back to the yoke?

Best way is to put the yoke in the transmission push it in all the way then pull it out 1/2-3/4 inch and then measure the length yoke to yoke, get a friend to help because you have hold both ends of the tape measure.

Actually, pull it out about 1" to be safe. Also, be sure the rear suspension is at ride height when you measure.

I could also use some guidance on where I can buy replacement trans fluide lines.... and a flex dipstick because it seems that the whole where the grommet sits will be well under the fire wall... this has been my first venture into working on a car of this magnitude and I have made every mistake I think you can possibly make.

When I put the 700R in my Cutlass, I called the driveline shop and asked what I needed to do. They told me to take the measurements without the driveshaft in. Call the shop you are using and ask.
I just used the Chevy dipstick tube that came with my Bowtie Overdrives 700R. It will fit, but you will need make a few minor bends.
I still had the Olds 455 installed when I installed the 700R. I was using rubber lines from the tranny to the radiator. But after installing the BBC I went with with Bowtie Overdrives stainless steel hard lines with braided stainless steel flex lines at the radiator. A much cleaner install. If I remember correctly InLine Tube makes stainless steel lines for a 700R installed in an Olds.
You can see the flex trans lines in the photo below.
