700 r4 shifting issues

Hi I’m looking for help/advice.
3 years ago I had a 700r4 swap done. Everything was great until now.
the shifter cable cannot push the transmission lever into park or any gear. If the transmission is in park I can shift into reverse or drive since the cable is pulling. When I shift back so the cable is pushing the lever the cable bunches up and makes a loop instead of pushing the lever on the transmission.
I took the cable off and I can shift the lever by hand and the cable will just go back on so it seems to be adjusted properly.
I have never seen this before so I am not sure how to fix it.
Thanks
scott

Get a new shift cable. If the trans lever moves easily with the cable disconnected then obviously the cable is the problem. The braided stainless cable inside the plastic sheath eventually wears out and strands break. These ends dig into the plastic sheath and prevent the cable from moving.

I'll add to make sure ALL of your engine grounding straps (the little short braided ones about 3/8" wide between engine and firewall) are in place and have good connection. Add some more if you want.

What happens is, if those grounds are missing, the body electrical system will try to ground thru any available path. Shifter cables and heater control cables are notorious for getting seized up when they become the ground path because the factory grounds are MIA.
