'62 F-85 Conv 215 TH200 info needed

A "Hen's Tooth" request for sure!
Got a nice little ragtop that appears to have tranny issues. Several rebuilds over the years/owners so I am looking to improve on that approach...
Wife loves it but wants something to drive anywhere and not watch me work on it. (actually, its my whining she hates!!!)

Picked up a 40k miles '87 TH200 out of a 2bbl V8 Regal, it drove on down the road just fine, shifted right before removal.
So how do I put this into the little F-85? the bottom of this Uni-body is mint, so not looking to mess with it if possible.

Looking for advice from someone who has done it successfully!
Or, am I better off selling this?
Thanx in advance for any help finding an adapter plate or whatever else is needed!!!!

Is that a TH 200 C or a TH 200 4R. Basically, does it have OD or just a 3 speed? If it is the OD version it will not fit without cutting the floor pan. The 200C will fit but there is a spot that you will have to hammer the floor pan for just a little clearance. You will need an adapter plate and D&D aluminum V8 sells those. You will need to get the driveshaft worked on as well. I have not done it but have read were several other guys have. Luckily I have a transmission guy that can rebuild the originals and never had a problem with it after the rebuild. If I ever do, I am going the 200C

That is a nice looking car. I would do whatever it takes to fix it.

The TH200 three speed is the best-fitting modern automatic for these cars and is more than strong enough for a stock 215. D&D sells an adapter kit. Obviously you'll need to fabricate a trans crossmember and new driveshaft.

Yes, it is a TH200 3 spd auto....

Thanx everyone for the input!
I did reach out to D&D but the website did not show the TH300 kit specifically and calling them was kind of strange with no message beep????
Will keep chasing this and hopefully find some one who has actually done one for additional tips!
If there are any plates out there for sale please point them my way!

While we are chatting, is there a better two Barrel carb to put on this 215 or is the 4bbl upgrade worth it????

Thanx in advance!

I personally would stay with the stock 2 bbl over replacing with another 2 bbl. If you go to a 4 bbl, I hear the stock ones are a little tough to tune and get right but if you go with the edelbrock, you have to fabricate a transmission linkage setup for it. I have only played with the Jetfire 1 bbl and turbo setup on these cars so I don't really have any experience with the 2 or 4 bbl

I do all my own carb work, and even I finally gave up on the original 4GC from my 62 215. I went with a 500 CFM E-brock in 2010 and haven't looked back. I had to fabricate throttle and throttle valve linkages, and of course I had to dial in the jetting for my application, but it's run great since then, including two trips on Hot Rod Power Tour. The E-brock bolts to the factory 4bbl intake. Using a TH200 with the cable throttle valve control will greatly simplify the linkage problem.

Thanx Everyone!

I have found a D&D trans adapter plate for a 700R4, but cannot reach anyone at D&D to confirm if this will also work with a '87 Buick TH200C tranny.
There is no part number on it either. Here are few pics of the tranny....

The adapter plate for the 700R4 has the Chevy bellhousing bolt pattern. Your BOP pattern trans will not bolt up. You need a Chevy pattern TH200.

Thanx Joe!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

That is what I was looking for....a definitive answer of what is needed to attach this TH200C to my '62 Olds 215.

Hmmmm.......where to go from here????????? Somebody has to have one of these adapters laying around!

Hey Everybody...go check your parts stash, or that parts car, or?????
Thinking outside the box now, would it be reasonable to think the 700R4 adapter plate would be an easy one to modify rather than creating a whole new plate???

TH200C w Chevy bolt pattern? Is there such a thing, if so, what cars had them?

A lot of 1980s G-body and B-body cars with 305 and 4.3 liter V6. Surprisingly, they were not unisex bellhousings.

Metric 200?

Hi,
Is it a Metric 200 you're trying to install? If so, I'm in the same boat! I have an opportunity to pick up a recently rebuilt metric 200 to replace the Roto 5. It is from a mid 80's V6 Olds so it does have the BOP bell housing. From what I've read there is minimal modification needed to the trans tunnel to get it to work, which is what I wanted. I just have other questions regarding getting everything else connected, shifter/speedo cable/TV cable/driveshaft, etc.
Hopefully we can find some answers!

Your car is a beauty, btw!
