So, I'll spare you all of how I got roped into this, but have a question. I had to remove the front of the trans to repair the trans mount threads/broken bolts, and discovered what I think may be a problem. The trans was rebuilt by who knows, and has been on a shelf for a year. When I pop the flywheel/torus plate cover off, it's nailed with RTV and has a round rubber seal in it. I believe it should have a square cut seal, and no globs of RTV. Do they assemble them either way? It just doesn't look right, and really am not sure if both types will work, or if the trans guy was a hack. Thanks for any input.

The RTV should not be needed if the correct seal was used. I believe you are right that the o-ring is square cut. You should be able to find these thru Fatsco or Auto-tran.
