55 slant pan connection to carb

Hi
i have a 59 371 with a 55 slant pan automatic. There is a linkage between the carb and the trans. I am not sure what this is but I am guessing this is the kick down. Is that necessary for this transmission? I dont really need the kick down function and would like to remove it so I can go to the standard rochester 2 barrel butterfly linkage. Thanks for any help

You will need the linkage as it is necessary. It is not just a kick down rod but a TV rod. It controls internal oil pressure much like a vacuum modulator does.

Thank you for the help. I will have to figure out another way to work with the butterfly linkage. The one i have has been customized. The rod was drilled out and tapped to hold the custom linkage. The tap leaves very little wall thickness left so the bolt doesnt hold the plate tight.
again thanks for the help

Hi
Do you know where i can see the “factory” connector for this transmission to the rochester 2 barrel? The standard rochester doesnt have the trans connection and i am wondering what they looked like when they rolled out of factory. Thanks

This is a 1952 illustration, but '55 is much the same.

thank you very much “! This helps a lot. I now understand what my father was doing when he did the customization to the throttle linkage.
