2004r manual shifting question

Hi guys, its been a while since I've been here. I have a quick question. I installed a 2004r on my 72 cutlass and kept the original PRNDSL cluster. I try to manually shift the tranny, and i only seem to have just PRNDSL. i thought with the 200r4 i would get a "extra gear" Is there a problem with my tranny?. When i just leave at at "D" and cruise around i do feel the 4th gear kick in. Thanks

You actually have PRN432. Your shift quadrant is not allowing you to manually shift into first. As you note, the trans will use all four gears if left in D (actually now OD, the new D is in the old S position, etc.). If you have a floor shifter, Shiftworks sells a conversion kit that lets your stock shifter manually access all four forward gears.
