200-4r not shifting

I have a 1987 Cutlass Supreme with the stock 200-4r transmission. Recently (within the last few months) it has had trouble shifting at ~20-25 mph. To shift i have to run the rpm real high, let off until they drop, and than gas it again. I dont know much about transmission work, but I checked and my transmission fluid level is fine. If anyone else had an issue like this, how did you fix it? Or is this time for me to invest in a better transmission?

Make sure the TV cable is moving freely, it could be stuck. The governor could also be sticking and causing the late shifting issue.

That was my first concern.

And that's my second.

Bigbender, there used to be so much readily available info on adjusting the TV cable 20 years back. Now it's so hard to find.

But this may help.

Thanks to DrRansom442 of the g body forum.

I had a 87 442 on the road back then and thanks to the internet I had the TV cable set to performance perfection.

Good Luck !
