I have 1967 330 oldmobile motor, and was wanting to know if anyone has recomendations for manual transmission to put with it. Or am i better off finding a th350 for it?
Check the crankshaft to see if it was machined to accept a pilot bearing for a MT input shaft. If not, the crank will need to be machined accordingly. There are threads on here about what is needed to do this.
If the crank will accept a pilot bearing, any MT used w/ the 330-455 Olds motors will bolt up to a factory bellhousing. Will need to add clutch pedal and lever parts (chassis holes should already be present), side of engine block should have hole tapped for ball pivot).
Nearly all Olds motors that came from the factory in front of an automatic trans did NOT have the crank machined for the pilot bushing. If you want a manual trans, your options are to use an aftermarket conversion bushing that fits in the torque converter nose recess in the crank (which requires you to cut about 3/4" off the nose of the transmission input shaft) or to pull the crank and have a machine shop properly machine the crank for the pilot bushing.
