1964 Cutlass Transmission

I acquired a 1964 Cutlass two door hardtop, AC car that I hope to restore. It is a manual transmission car , but the trans is out of the car. There were two trans in the trunk. My buddy says one is a " T-10" 4-speed and the other is a 3-speed. Is there a way to know from the cowl tag what trans the car came with ? Attached are pictures of the T-10. Can the trans be identified by the numbers ? Thanks for the help , John

Trans

The three speed would be more likely correct on early cutlass, T10 is actualy a Ford trans, but fits the bellhousing and would work.

I can tell you for sure that the T-10 is NOT the original trans, since Olds stopped using the T10 after the 1963 model year. The factory four speed would have been a Muncie. The three speed may or may not have been original, there's no way to tell from the cowl tag. The shifter is not original, since 1964 cars used a Muncie shifter, not a Hurst. The bellhousing in the picture is a Chevy bellhousing and will not bolt to an Olds motor. If the final picture is the T-10 input shaft, that is a GM case, but not a trans used by Olds.

Hi John
Is this a recent addition to your 1964 collection?

The T10 tailshaft looks to have a date code cast into it. If I'm reading it right it looks like 6 10 61. Do you have any pictures of the 3 speed? I've got one I picked up years ago that has a cast iron housing rather than aluminum. Hopefully someone will be able to key out the numbers you've posted. The 1964 in my picture came with a console and that option was listed on the cowl tag. If you have a console or parts from one look to see if it has the 3 speed or 4 speed pattern on it. You probably didn't get a console, but I wanted to mention that just in case its in pieces in a box somewhere.

John

Hey John, how are you ? I hope it is cooler in Medford than down here. Listed numbers for the 3 speed in this thread. It is an iron case. Attached a couple of pics of the automatic hardtop with the 425 I got from you. Thanks again for your help. John

Spent some time on the internet trying to ID the T-10 trans. Appears to be 1961 Chevy , either Corvette or Impala. Definitely not Olds. Still trying to research the 3 speed numbers.
