Toronado racing

Has anyone successfully campaigned a early toronado in LSR ? Im doing a resto on a 66 but find ill have a extra body snd chassis on the rough side and had thoughts of building something of a race car

The shape is probably as good as you’d need, but the reviews of the 4 wheel drum brakes at the time were not complimentary, so you’re into custom 4 wheel disc territory there. Not made easier by the front wheel drive system. But you could adapt later Olds or Eldorado parts maybe.

And the weight, how far would you want to go making it lighter? Lexan windows, fiberglass “bumpers” and on & on.

Guessing you’re aware of Jay Leno’s ‘66 Toro build. He had a different (rear wheel drive) vision of what the car should be than Olds. His car looks right, but totally defeated what Olds was going for in ‘66.

Racing a Toro? Why not?
