Started fixing 67 Toronado

So I guess I will start a new thread, and then just work through everything. Car has a lot of things I need to do, but at first, want to get everything mostly working. Hoses, belts, and vacuum lights are on the top of my list.
The indicator lights and brake lights also do not work. When I switch on the headlights, then the back lights do come on. The fuses are fine, I replaced them tonight as well. Where should I start?

The paint actually looks nicer in this light than it really is. But overall the car is solid.

I'd check the bulbs and switch for the brake lights

Looking for this vaccum relay?

Sits behind the big vacuum canister. What is it for? The lights I assume?
The one tab broke off.

Put some new tires on the car today. Nice set of whitewalls, $390 installed. However the steering wheel still has a vibration at around 65 on the highway. What else could that be? I was hoping the tires would fix it.

Assuming the tires were balanced correctly your vibration could be from the front axles, have you checked them yet? Could also be from loose steering linkage or bad control arm bushings.

Your indicator lights and brake lights inop will most likely be the turn signal switch.

Put new bulbs in, new flasher unit, new brake light switch. Also looked around the wiring. Pulling, poking, testing. Could not find a thing. The only thing left is the turn signal switch. When I switch on the headlights, the back lamps light up. When I pull the emergency flasher, the front indicator lights flash, not the rear ones.

I see there are a few on ebay. Anyone know if they will fit?

Also started doing the vacuum lines. What a job...

The switches you have links to are for Toros without cornering lights. yours has cornering lights. The correct switch does appear on ebay now and then but tends to be expensive. I just bought a 67 last year and I ran into the same thing. For the headlights, you may need a headlight switch (also vacuum operated). These also come up occasionally on ebay - albeit expensive. Hope this helps. The 67 has some parts unique to the 67 - unfortunately. Someone put door panels off of some other car on mine and I'm currently searching for a set even if they they need to be redone.

Thanks for the tips. Any idea if fhe switches will work just to fix my indicator and brake lights? I dont care about the cornerimg lights. Just want to drive the car. If nothing else work, will have to put a toggle switch for the indicators. For the headlights, plan to replace with vacuum acuators with electrical actuators. Any vacuum parts are already almost 50 years old.

Turn Signal Switch

I spent a few months trying to find one, without any luck. After having my mechanic "rig" one so that my cornering lights would work, I found one. Here is the contact info if you are intersted.

Collectors Auto Supply
888-772-7848
GM PART # 7805675
D6229
$395. plus shipping

cheaper than having your mechanic "rig" one!

Good luck!

Tom

Thank you. In the end I installed a non tilt steering wheel, and was able to get the a new switch for $35.
Of course the non tilt is not as nice, but having everything work is more important to me. Cornering lights still don’t work, but I am sure I can make it work by tapping one of the wires from the indicator. Just have to look into that later on?

Cornering Lights

The shop that fixed my cornering light issue is Bumbara's in Katy, TX. With the fix, the cornering lights come on every time I use the turn signal. With the proper switch, they would only come on when the headlights were on. Hope that helps!

Its probably possible to add a relay to that switch. The relay would have to activate if the headlights are on. Once the relay is on, that will turn that switch on when you use the indicator lights
