sideways headlamps?

I'm replacing the headlamps on cust 66 toro, And the pass side bucket assembly, the clocking tabs are so that the high and low beam bulbs are sideways, I looked in the the assembly manual and didnt see anything about it, Anyone run across this? The drivers side for high and low are fine or normal rather.

Sounds like someone may have put driver side buckets in the passenger side.

I dont think so? The driver side notches were down at the 7 o,clock position, They would be the same,, I'm wondering if there may have been a different lamp used for pass side? I ended up cutting my own notches for headlamp bulb to sit correctly.

looking from the front of the car, the adjusters on the driver side buckets are at the 12 o'clock and 3 o'clock position. These adjusters along with a spring located at the 7:30 position are what holds the headlight bucket to the car. The passenger side buckets have adjusters at the 12 o'clock and 9 o'clock positions with a spring at the 4:30 position. Using a driver side headlight bucket on the passenger side will result in a headlight that is turned 90 degrees counter clockwise. Headlights are not made for left vs right, just high beam or hi/low beam (2 terminals on the back vs. 3). If your passenger side headlights were turned sideways, someone installed driver side buckets on the passenger side of the car. At this point though, it does not really matter since it is fixed.

I really thank you for the reply, Do have another light issue as far as trunk lamp, It was disconnected and found the plug in or appears the plug in, only one floating around, are the trunk lamp to only work while headlamps or park lamps on? And hoping to not start another thread, but what does the courtesy switch next to ignition switch do?

On my 68, the trunk lamp is fed by an orange wire and it will light whenever the trunk is open (I actually leave it unplugged so it does not drain the battery while the trunk is open). The hood light is fed by a brown wire and it is on the parking light circuit so it will only light when the parking/ tail lights are on. I believe the GM accessory add on trunk light kits tie into the license plate wire feed. The courtesy light switch on my 68 turns on the under dash lights only, The under dash lights, door lights, and sail panel lights come on with the door jam switches.

OK, If not mistaken on GM the orange is hot all the time? and white is interior lighting, Think it is a grey wire that i have plugged into courtesy switch, but all interior lamps work so, not worried to much about it, Thank you sir.

Correct, orange is hot all the time. To add to that, pink is ignition and yellow is accessory. White is interior lighting, but it is for the ground side. The courtesy light switch grounds the circuit just like a door jam switch which is why there is only one connection on it. There are different white wires on my 68 for different circuits. White, white with a black stripe, etc. The passenger side door jamb switch connects each of these wires to ground independently. The driver side door jam switch has 3 white wires, one for the under dash lights (also operated by the dash switch), one for the door/ sail panel lights, and one for the key buzzer. I don't believe 66 had a key buzzer so in 66 there may have only been one ground circuit (white wire). As you said, the dash switch turns the interior lights on so you are in good shape.
