Sensor on Left intake manifold
#6
I've got some Toronado engines and parts cars and have seen that before. I'm thinking its a temperature sending unit. I'll see if I can find anything out that will help you find the wire for this. John

"Stop engine" warning lamp sensor.
1st generation Toronado tended to run hot. If owner didn't pay attention to his temp gage or "hot" warning lamp, and the cylinder head temp got high, this sensor triggered a flashing "STOP ENGINE" warning.
There is a head bolt in that position. The sensor threads into it.

What I had in mind is actually a head bolt with a wire plug attached to it. Is this what you have, or is it something different? Here's a couple pictures of newer ones. The one with a green wire, the same color as the sensor that goes into the pass front intake mainifold is a 1968. The bolt without a wire is in a 1969.

Do you have a Chassis Service Manual? That would have a colored wiring schematic showing where the wire goes. On the 1968 it runs around the front of the intake manifold and joins a wiring harness at the front passenger side of the intake/valve cover.

I can't find the stop engine sensor wire on the 66 E-car wiring diagram. Those and 67 had temperature gauges so probably didn't have the warning lamp. Here's a 68 cluster showing the two TEMPERATURE warning lamps. HOT lamp (right side of pod) is steady red, STOP ENGINE (left side) is a flashing yellow.
Ty, is there a possibility your car has had a later 455 engine or maybe cylinder heads installed sometime in the last 58 years? 1966 should have B heads. 67-69 had C and 1970 were E. I don't think you'll find the temp sensor wire on a 1966.
