I'm putting the trim back on my '66. I wasn't the one who took it off, so I'm going off what makes sense to me. It seams pretty self explainitory for the most part, however, I do have 2 questions...

What did the fastener that went at the ends of the bottom-of-door trim look like? Is that it on Fusick? Part #12134 Door Panel Trim Tab?

And, what are these? I've got about a dozen of the thing on the right, and just two of the thing on the left... The one on the left looks like a stop to hold glass in place somewhere... No idea on the right one.

Those pictures are indeed the clips that connect the door pannel to the door. As for the pieces in your hand, I'm not sure.

 

Could the part on the right be used for holding in the cowl lacing strip? My car didn't have this when I got it.

Might the rubber coated thing be used for holding the windshield in place durring replacement? Though, I don't see anywhere they would be attatched...

Good, I typed extensive posts only to have them erased!! I've had 5 66 toros starting from 1973 tried to restore the first four. finished the 5th. My first one had a factory Golde sunroof. I wish I still had that one. It'd be worth a fortune. Anyway let's see, the clips fusick has are not correct for 66 and, the bottom of the door did not have clips but it had four screws. You'll see the formed area of the lower plastic piece.If the original screw holes are stripped, just drill adjacent holes and sink the screws a little into the carpet and the difference will not be noticed. You may or may not have noticed that your door panels (if they've been on and off a lot) will have either missing or bent (pins) along the front and rear edges. Along with the 9 screws, these pins were shoved into plastic anchors to attach the panel to the door. Check the anchors, the original pins will be stuck in them. If they weren't aligned properly before being pushed into the anchors, they often were bent and weakened. Multiple removing and installing would eventually lead to them breaking off, which would leave one to rely only on the screws, but surprisingly, these pretty much will do the job of holding the panel well. These pins were flimsy and hard to reproduce or replace and remains a problem that has not been addressed to this day for restorers of this year as far as I know. The top right clip in your hand is indeed for the lower windshield stainless trim piece. Check that there might be a left and right piece for the two ends, if not then just slide them in from the sides and screw them into the factory holes. the other is as you suspected, a stop for the bottom of the front windshield . If you can't find the holes, obviously, make measurements and drill new ones at least 18 in. from the edges. I think the windshield trim needs 5 clips. I was actually talking about the exterior chrome o.o my interrior is all set to go. On the outside of the door, there's that trim along the bottom edge, and it has little nylon clips that keep it on for the most part, but there are two square holes, one at each end of the door, for a fastener of some kind. Looks kind of like what you might put a carriage bolt through. Thanks for taking so much time to explain it though ^_^

Oh boy... I got the glass guys coming on tuesday to put in my windshield, and no idea where to put those stands, lol. All the factory holes in that area are gone, because... well... most of the metal was gone. Ehh, I'll just clamp a piece of wood there while the glue is drying.

Oooh,, I was wondering how the lower trim stayed in place. I covered up those holes durring the patching process, but I marked out where they were, so I should be able to replace them.

I forgot, do you need those clips that hold the bottom outside stainless trim ? or four of those outside clips? I'll upload pictures for you on the next response. Bud

 

Hope these pics can be distinguished Left is end clip, it gets snapped in. On the right is the clip that slides from the top over the pins at the bottom of the door and you should hear a click indicating (it's fastened right). The trim piece is then positioned with it's bottom edge against the door and then twisted up to snap the top on. Two screws are then fastened from the inside bottom of the door. Update.
