Jay Leno's Toro

Go to Jay Leno's Garage and check out his 1000 horsepower toro. So powerful and awesome it's almost funny.

The car looks beautiful but it needs a real Olds motor. Of course, if GM were going to give ME a 1,000 HP turbo Chevy motor, I probably wouldn't turn it down either.

There are a few Chevies with Olds engine too, just to be fair. See link

That's a right sharp looking 'Vair, Greybeard! Great color, right stance... I've seen them with BB Chevs stuck in the rear seat area, and there's a Toronado-powered Loadside that shows up at the CORSA show at Charlotte Auto Fair often.

Details, man, details!

You're gonna give Ralph Nader a heart attack...

As always, I will reserve my comments about Jay's Toronado.

Jays car is awesome , I am o.k. with the new tech engine (prefer Olds) but whats with the rear wheel drive , sure I prefer my cars to drive by the rear wheels but if I were stinking rich that bad boy would be AWD !

BTW that Corvair WOW !

The coolest Toronado ever on TV was the customized '66 convertible on the detective series "Mannix". I liked the full width rear view mirror.

How about the Hurst Hairy Olds. Anybody remember that? 2 toro motors, supercharged and all wheel drive. The guy who drove it said they never knew where it might go.

And that, I think, is why the Leno Toronado was changed to RWD. I think Jay was aware of Hairy and figured a 1000 HP FWD car would be a little squirrelly.

Never mind his German carbuilder claimed the Toronado drivetrain wouldn't take it. Hairy proved otherwise with 1960s technology.

I don't know if it was whether or not the Toro drivetrain could take it or not. Is that what Bernhard said??? But paraphrasing Jay, he always loved the 1st gen Toros and wanted to build something (American, of course) to smash the Bentley Continental GT. So he took one of our coolest examples of personal luxury vehicles and built the bejeezus out of it. All Olds or not, it is damned impressive!

I agree!!
Back in the late 1980 ,my brother and I (most my brother0 would beat eh daly lights out of the 1973 Toronado. Heck even with a slipping transmission, my crazy younger brother, pulled a 5-ton Ford dump truck out of the woods with it!

The Grant Toro is alive and well and being restored in the midwest. I would expect to see it this summer at a few shows.
