66 Steering Column Disassembly

I have a 1966 Toronado and the turn signals are not wroking properly. I think I have (with help of a board member) traced that the problem is the turn signal cable that runs through the steering column to a switch under the dash. It appears that the cable is not connected to the turn signal lever properly. (There is a lot of play)
Could someone please give me instructions on how to disassemble the steering column so I can get to the turn signal lever/cable connection?
Thanks.

Column Work

If I were you I'd purchase a 1966 Oldsmobile Chassis Service Manual. If your going to do any work to your car this will be worth its weight in gold. You can find them on ebay for $20-80 depending on condition, private party vs. a business selling reprints, etc. They are full of photos and schematics of various parts of our cars. Each year covers all models of the year, from the Cutlass through the Toronado in different sections. I just went on ebay and did a search, the following link is an example of the book I'm suggesting:

Thanks. I jsut bought it. I had planned on getting one. I just had some free time this weekend and hoped someone could give me advice on solving my problem. I will wait until the manual gets in and refer to it. Thanks again.

Dave, look in the steering column section of the manual for the procedure.

66 manual has a separate Toronado 9487/9687 section in the back. What you need is not in those sections; those are Toronado-specific topics. Anything not covered there is in the general sections.

Toronado section of manual

FYI, the Toronado-specific section of the 1966 Chassis Service Manual is in an appendix at the end of the manual -- after the index of the regular portion. If the Toronado diagrams seem incomplete, you can turn to the main section's equivalent passages for more info.

In the case of the steering wheel, the Tornado illustration is on page 9E-6, but there are more detailed illustrations starting on page 9-37, some 522 pages earlier.

Also, the manual does not refer to cars by their names, but by their numbers. So you would be looking for the "94 and 96 series".
