1984 Toronado Air Ride Help

Hey all - been quiet for a while but as always still puttering around on the fleet.

Im trying to get my 84 Caliente back on the road after spending the last 15 years patiently waiting in the garage.

Has anyone had luck repairing/rebuilding the OE air suspension compressor on these cars? I would love to have it operational but I know my compressor needs at least a dryer - any kits? Any rebuilders?

Any direction would be appreciated

Gordon

I bought a spare compressor from the salvage yard for the rear air suspension on my 96 98. I never needed it though. I replaced the rear struts with air struts but they quickly failed, so I ended up going to standard suspension.

Good luck.

If his is the same as our 84 Riviera it does not have struts. Has springs with air shocks.

I called one of my customers earlier who has a Riviera like mine and is pretty heavy in the Riviera club. He said that several guys have used this person. Apparently he does complete rebuilds on those systems and sells parts etc.

I have been lucky that mine is still working fine after 300k miles Its on its third set of rear shocks. You cant get the GM shocks any more but Monroe has a set that fit with a minor change to the hose fittings. I actually have a spare set of shocks but they are missing the air lines that come with them.

Correct. This is not an "air ride" system, it's just load leveling using air shocks with an on-board compressor and a height sensing switch on the rear suspension.

Gordon,
If you have any questions, my 84 Riviera is basically the same car and I have had it since new. I pretty well know it inside and out Feel free to ask.
