Hello folks, am the new owner of a 1972 Toronado. Got it at a local auction for a great price. She has been sitting for 7 years, but there is no body rust, starts right up, and has a very clean interior. Odometer reads just shy of 28,000 miles. The guy who had it before me says that is all that has been put on her.
One quick question for the group. The ac blows cold, which was surprising, but it starts running as soon as you turn it on, and only runs on high no matter what you do with the fan switch. I don’t have a service manual yet, but I am assuming it is a bad relay, a bad blower motor resistor, or a bad control switch at the dash. Any thought and words of wisdom on tracking it down?
I THINK 72 A/C controls are like this and assuming it's not Comfortron:
If the TEMP lever is pushed all the way to the left, that puts the system in MAX A/C. This puts the doors in recirc mode and switches the fan to HIGH. Try moving the TEMP lever a little toward the right and see if anything changes. You should be able to feel a detent.
If that doesn't do it we'll go deeper.
1971 the blower ran whenever the ignition switch was in RUN, but I think that changed by 72.
Once you learn how a Toronado works, you will grow to love it.

Glenn is correct. On MAX you get HIGH speed. On NORM you get all speeds.
Thank you both. The ac does not show a max or a normal setting. Just AC. However, as you said, once I move the temperature control from the far left just a bit to the right, the fan switch activates and she still blows cold. One small mystery solved. I will let you know when I run into another one.
