door latch problem
Hi, 1972 442 drivers door issue. In this vid, have you experienced this problem before? The drivers door external button can stick in. Light pressure down on the handle can release it. Is this an old mechanism or because the door needs realigning?
thanks

Thanks but
Thanks but I haven't got the car yet. IN transport across Australia as we speak. I have never had to realign a door before, is it easy to lift the door a bit? The trunk lid is a bit out of kilter as well. Is this relatively easy to fix up? As for the button sticking in I wonder if the mechanism is faulty/old and it is going too far in.

I think from what has been said your best advise is to find a good body shop that can do a set of hinge pins and bushings and maybe a door stricker. Then align the doors. A good amount of lube on the latch.
The stripes might not line up after that is done. Would have been best done prior to painting the car.

Are the hinge pins worn?you can check this by lifting on the rear of the door,if it moves up and down then the pins may be worn, should be able to see the movement at the hinges,if the pins are tight then you need to adjust the door and the striker.

Lifting on the rear of the door doesn't move the hinges at all they are quite tight. I am going to try loosening the top and bottom hinge at the door side and then lifting it a cm or so. It only needs 2 or 3 mm movement at the top of the hinge end of the door. Fingers crossed.

I am thinking about putting a thick washer in behind the bolts at the bottom of the door. Do you think that will work? The striker looks fine though it has moved a couple of mm.

Problem nearly solved
Thanks to all. I have managed to loosen the hinge bolts against the door post and lifted it the distance I needed. Then the striker had to go up a bit. The latch is still dicky so I have ordered a new one from Fusick.
Thanks guys,
Richard
