1968 A body tilt wheel

Has anyone recently taken the “guts” out of a working tilt steering column assembly and transferred them to a non-tilt column? Both are correct one year only 1968 floor shift versions. Why would anyone want to do that you may ask? The tilt I bought recently was rebuilt really well, my issue is purely cosmetic- but there is noticeable pitting in the long exterior tube that goes into the dash, but not the ”bowl” area that comes up to meet the steering wheel hub. Unfortunate eBay experience.... While so little of it is visible installed, I’ll probably be the only one to notice the difference anyway. My non tilt original column is mint and of course the right color already.

Thoughts? Being too picky, or is not that bad of a swap to do?
