I'm in the process of rebuilding/replacing the steering/suspension/brakes on my 68 442. I'm to the point where I have it all disassemled and ready to clean the control arms and prep for powder coating. When I pulled the old coil springs out I discovered rubber insulators that appear to act as a bushing between the spring and lower control arm.


I didnt realize they were there and looked for them on-line to get replacements but have'nt seen them on any of the main auto part resources, (OPGI, yearone, Rock auto, In-line tube). Do I need these? I'm sure they're factory original and assume theyre necessary? Any idea where I can get them?


I'll try and post some pics later. Also kinda surprised how easily things have came apart so far, was a little hesitant going into the project but so far it's been smooth.....of course I havent gotten to the more challenging part of putting it all together. Thanks in advance for any input.

 

There are no spring insulators in the front control arms that I have ever seen. My guess is someone installed them in the past. Maybe as spacer to increase the front end height..

 

I believe the assembly manual shows them only for the rear springs.

X2. I've never seen them on the fronts either.

 

Did mine on a 68 awhile back, nothing in the front, one on each side in the rear.

 

Same here didn't have any up front when i did my front suspension and replaced the rear ones since they were coming apart.

Everyone I know puts them in.... Never a bad idea to have some rubber between two hefty pieces of metal, you know......

I have them for the fronts -- $ 8.00 for a pair -- can ship them via a padded manila envelope for $ 4.00.

Nobody I know puts them in the front. I've seen solid spacers put under the spring, but nothing to isolate the spring from the perches.
