Sway bar...C body

I cannot locate a rear sway bar for my '69 Ninety Eight 4 door hardtop. I experience more than acceptable side wind control when towing our 24' Airstream. The vendors that I have found do not stock C- body bars.

Thanks,
Neil

I'm pretty sure you're confined to the junkyard market for that one, Neil, but when you do find one, you will definitely notice the difference.
There have been a couple of threads about full size rear sway bars over the past couple of years, and one of them may have a little bit of useful information for you (there was nothing earthshattering in any of them, if I recall).

I see no reason one for a B-body (if available) wouldn't work. Suspension configuration is the same; difference is the wheelbase.

Yes, B and C body will be the same, but that won't make one easy to find.

You want to look for police cars and station wagons with towing packages.

The 1965-70 Olds/Buick B-body and C-body chassis and suspension are exactly the same except for the wheelbase. The length difference is in the side rails and does not affect the rear suspension. The problem is that few of these cars came with a rear sway bar, and even fewer remain in wrecking yards, so your chances of finding one are EXTREMELY small. Chevy rear suspensions from those years are different and Chevy rear bars don't work.

The factory rear bar attached to the lower control arms like the ones on the A-body. Consider instead either an aftermarket bar or adapting a later model bar that clamps to the rear axle housing and uses links that go to the frame. One good source is a police/taxi spec Crown Vic. These are MUCH more plentiful and the bars are very adaptable to other cars.

All you need to know can be found on page 1 of following thread (see post 27 especially):

https://classicoldsmobile.com/forums...-sway-bar.html

Bottom lining it:

1. You are unlikely to find a police swaybar, pretty much the only factory rear bars offered on the big cars.

2. Aftermarket bars or modified A-body bar/bracket combos either will not fit or will look like ***.

3. Your BEST bet is to find a rear swaybar from a 1975-6 Chevy Caprice so equipped (apparently these year cars are the most likely 71-76 B-bodies to have them). It will not look exactly like the original Olds police bar, but it will be essentially a bolt-in job, look good and function nicely.
