Another steering/wheel centering thread

Have read a ton of threads. Nothing I’ve read pints me to a solution for my current dilemma.

New steering box and all front suspension/steering components

I’ve centered the box, tie rods are equal length, pitman and idler pointing pretty much parallel to cars centerline, wheels mostly appear pointing straight ahead (at least as good as I can see with the wheels hanging).

Steering column mark is about 90 degrees out of phase.

Not sure what adjust. The rag joint pins would only be a 180 degree change, the splined end on the box doesn’t look to be adjustable?

The box is like 2 1/4 turns lock to lock so if I try to make up 90 degrees with the tie rods I will lose too much turning radius on one side?

looking for ideas

I dropped the pitman arm off the splines and verified box is centered. 2 1/2 turns lock to lock.

Column alignment mark is just about 90 degrees counterclockwise to the driver side.

Going to pull the rag joint off the box to see if I’ve somehow got that 90 degrees off?

Figured it out.

Reproduction rag joint (from large Olds parts supplier) has the correct splines but doesn’t have the flat spot that I assume would properly clock the joint. Can’t remember what I was looking at when I put it on the first time but I pulled the steering column back and re-installed with the mark straight up.

All looks good now!

Hopefully this helps someone else.

I had something similar. Everything should have lined up but the steering wheel didn’t line up. When I had the alignment done they said they could fix it but when I picked it up they said I must have aftermarket parts so they could get it right. I did a JGC box swap and when I was done everything lined up. I was never sure why, now I assume it was probably my coupler also. Thanks for closing out this thread with a resolution as I’m sure we are not the only ones to experience this.
