I have replaced my steering gear several times with rebuilt units. Steering is better with the Jeep GC gear but I about 1" play at stand still and am wondering it the gear can successfully be adjusted or should I just pull it out and replace it? I got it at Advanced Auto and it is under warranty. It has been confirmed that it is in the gear nowhere else. I'm thinking that it needs to be replaced.

Your going to have some play in a reciprocating ball type steering box, it is not like modern day rack and pinion. 1 inch or 1/2 in to either side seems normal to me.
