My steering wheel vibrates when I steer right only. Not big vibrations like when wheels are unbalanced, but a small tension-like vibration. Worm gear too tight/loose? Wheel bearing(s)? No odd sounds.

EDIT: Bonus question: The 12.7:1 steering boxes out of '71 Camaros have less of a turning radius than my stock steering box but are fixed ratio, right? There's a cheap one floating around, and I've read I can 'just' put the stock end/cover plate on the Camaro box and obtain the same turning radius I have with the stock box. Have I understood this correctly?

 

I would guess wheel bearing. Check the outer left first. Does it happen on acceleration or deceleration or both?

 

You might also consider your front suspension bushings - one that is too loose or soft can do this.

As for the steering, I don't remember exactly, but Jim Shea lays it out very clearly in one of his papers on the subject.

It happens at acceleration, deceleration, and constant speeds. Interestingly enough, it also happens in reverse. I'll pop off the wheel and check the bearing.

Eric: You're thinking control arm bushings? They're all new and poly, came with my tubular control arms.

Might it be a blown ball joint in a steering arm?

Regarding steering, if I'm reading it correctly, the '71 Camaro came with a variable ratio steering box. Oh well.

I started her up again. It happens when she's at a standstill as well. This is power steering we're dealing with. But, I'd think that rules out bearings and tires as the culprits, yes?

 

Yes, I'd say. If it happens at a stop, it's your power steering. Maybe some air in there. I'm not sure beyond that.
