You didn't forget to let your friends out of the trunk the last time you all went to the drive-in, did you?

I couldn't resist :-)

Seriously, though, more info would be useful. When does it make noise? Constantly? Only when turning? Does it vary, and if so, does it vary with engine rpm or road speed? More data!

Honestly, I'd say it is more than likely not the tranny, but definitely the U-joints. I'd replace the U-joints and such, and see how things go. Inspect the driveshaft for damage as well. When you put the car in gear, does it clunk?

More detail when does it do it. Turning, giving it gas, or braking it could be several things.

Is it coming from the front or back?
Withthe car parked, grab ahold of the top of each front tire and push and pull it vigorously. If anything seems loose, you are getting close to the problems, either ball joints, wheel bearings or bushings.
There should be a reason your end links were torn to shreds - they usually do not wear that way.

Check your universal joints at each end of you drive line could be that one or the other is going out. Lots of people forget to grease them. Not a pretty site if the front breaks and you do a drive line stand

Ha, maybe you should check to see if someone attached a big 'ol zip tie to your driveshaft. Its a common prank around here to loop a big zip tie around a driveshaft (FWD or RWD) and then when they drive, the slack of the zip tie thumps on the bottom of their car. Then they think they have this big issue, when it's really only a zip tie.

But seriously, I'd bet on the U-joints. But, to make an even more accurate assesment, we'd need to know exactly where the noise is coming from.
