Front suspension bushings

I am redoing my 72 convertible (posted under major builds) and was looking at the control arm bushings today. I had replaced these back in 1996 with urethane bushings. I notice some small cracks in the outer surfaces. Is this normal? should they also be replaced?

If they need replacing now would be the time as the engine and transmission will hopefully be out tomorrow.

Please post your humble advice.

Thanks!

Not really. Without the weight of the engine and transmission to compress the springs you'll have to fight some kind of spring compressor.

I've never had urethane bushings so I don't know what normal is for them.

I'd probably just remove them before the engine pull then install after new engine is installed.... I wrestled with them once without a spring compresser and I am not as young as I once was!

If your trying to get your springs out or compress them to go back in. Just do what i did with the floor jack, scroll thru thos pictures and you will see what im talking about. Should help and should work, took me all of 15 mins to get both springs in place.

Small surface cracks are probably okay. If you want to replace, do with the engine in the car - makes a big help!
