finding rear springs help
I was looking to get rear springs off rock auto if possible for a 1970 442 455cid no AC if anyone can help.
I'm looking for stock height or up to a inch or so higher.

Rear springs
There is an Olds oriented business in Sacramento, CA called Tanson Enterprises. They can get you your springs. Great guys. Here is their website.

I would say firm and controlled but i never got a feel for the originals so i have no clue, if it helps its gonna be weekend racer/ daily driver type of car. For future help front end spings tooo.
Shocks I was thinking KYB's gas-a-just if anyone has any opinions about them or others I could use any help i can get.
its getting down to the wire where Im getting the frame back and will have to put the rear end back on.

If you have plans to race i would suggest the heavy duty springs. Now if this auto tranny or manual? That would help me give the final answer, but I still think you want the HDs. They are a must have for a manual.

Cargo Coil 501s (CC501) will keep the car at stock height, which is just a little below parallel in the back.

Moog 5385 would probably be your best choice then - highest spring rate avaialable stock. $63 at Rockauto.
The CC501 is even higher, resulting in even a more firm ride.
Either should keep a stock ride height, or an inch more.

Coil size
Ok so i finnally got the springs today, I compared them to the ones i took out and they look to be about a inch or so shorter than the old ones. Does this mean that its going to be dropping the rear down lower?

No, dont judge the book by the cover. Its going to work just as well as the originals. It might raise the car a little high but give it time for the springs to break in. The car will settle down.

Probably not. Measure the bar diameter and you should find that the bar of the new spring will be larger in diameter than that of the old spring. That will mean it is stiffer and will compress less under the same load weight. This should keep ride height at or slightly above stock. Now keep in mind your old springs were probably sagging, so the rear may seem a a couple inches higher than before!
