Question adding a rear sway bar on a 65 cutlass f85

Any and all info is helpful. Thanks in advance. I want to add a 1" sway to the rear and box the rear end. Anyone else ever done this?

I'm sure lots of people have done this. Its simple, you only need 3 parts. The sway bar and a set 2 of lower rear control arms that are boxed for the sway bar. Not to expensive if you go aftermarket.

WoW. Didnt think I gave a bad answer but, Huh. Dont know what kind of answer your looking for?
Anyways years ago we swaped my 69 442 sway bar to my Dads 67 GS400. All we did was weld in some steel spacers so the sway bar mounting bolts dont squeeze the sides of the arms together and then I welded some steel plate on the lower side to box them in.

Where are you getting the 1" bar? The factory bars were 7/8. Larger ones are aftermarket only. I did find a Chevelle vendor selling 1" rear bars at Carlisle for $115.

You do need to box the lower arms. Repro factrory boxing plates are available for weld-your-own mods.

Yes it is as simple as that

In 1985 I used the factory boxed lower control arms and sway bar off my dead '68 442 and after installing new bushings and some fresh paint, installed them in my '65 Cutlass convertible.

It was truely a "swap type" bolt on... a couple jack stands, a floor jack, a few hand tools, and a few hours on a weekend, and it's done.

The rear lower control arms are the same from 1964-1972. You either need boxed arms or the aftermarket boxing plates welded to your arms. Since the lower arms need to come out in either case, you MIGHTASWELL replace the bushings at the same time.

Joe my 1" rear bar came from OPG. Not very good quality looking finished product but looked OK after powder coated.
