I'd like to replace the lower stud/bolt on the rear shocks, as I am finishing up with a suspension and brake overhaul.
The spacer/collar that came off of my stud measured at 5/8" thick. I picked up a real inexpensive dorman kit that came with an integral 1/2" spacer/collar. The original 5/8" collar places the shock at a more neutral position whereas the dorman's thinner collar slightly forces the shock towards the front of the car. I doubt the 1/8" difference would be much of a problem. Curious as to what you guys use/recommend.
The best ones were made by a Buick guy, unfortunately he doesn't make them any more. Original studs only had a nut at one end. Original studs were integral with the shock. In the old days, studs were included, Monroe's were pretty decent. Sure, they are decent. There are flats on the round rear piece to hold it while you tighten them. You can barely see them in the pic. Sometimes you have to make sure the flats are in a certain position for wheel clearance depending on the wheel offset and diameter. But they should work for you. The Monroe's are about the same but not plated. Just to increase your knowledge, here's a pic of a typical original stud. The nut/spacer was unmovable, it was only there to tighten and space the shock. The stud was inserted and the washer was welded on the back afterwards. My new shocks always came with new hardware. I prefer the nut on each end.
The suspension kit I ordered came with a set of double adjustable viking shocks that only included the upper hardware and eyelet bushing sleeves, unfortunately.
