'57 suspension replacement
'57 suspension replacement
Hi all. Am looking for advice as to what front frame (suspension) clip I should use to replace my stock '57. Am using a BB 455. Want power disc. and steering. Appreciate any info. TIA!
I'd use an 80s-90s GM B-body if the width and all is close. Get one from a Caprice cop car or a Diesel wagon and start from there. You'll get disc brakes, good steering setup, and plenty of aftermarket stuff if handling or lowering is your thing. Be aware that some of those chassis used 5x4.75 bolt circle wheels, but most had 5x5.
2nd choice would be a 70-76 B car, and Buick was probably the best of those with that Accu-Drive steering geometry they used. I think the others adapted it but not sure when.
Either will accept a BBO using the correct frame perches.
Scarebird makes rear disc brake kits for the 57-64 Olds-Pontiac rear axle. Might as well go all the way.

Huh? I suspect that "Accu-Drive" was conceived by the same guys who came up with the "Rocket V8" because every B/C body of the same year in the 71-76 range uses the same steering and suspension parts by part number. The 71-76 cars are wider than the 77-96 cars, so I'm wondering which is the better fit.
Either will accept a BBO using the correct frame perches.
Thanks!!!
