1970 Cutlass S Suspension

OK Experts,

Can the rear springs be removed by lifting the car and letting the axle hang? Or do I need to compress them?

Disconnect the lower shock mounts and they’ll come out.

Any recommendations on springs and shocks - I want to raise the car higher than stock.

Heavy duty station wagon coils?
Gas tube shocks?

As the others said set the car frame on jack stands just in front of the rear wheels. Note the pigtail position of the springs as they do have to clocked. Place a floor jack under the pumpkin, remove the lower shock mounting, and lower the rear end. The springs will have no tension on them and pull right out. Moog cargo coils will raise your rear and you can still use the stock shocks. I like the KYB Gas Adjust.
